ISLAMABAD: After days of negotiations, the two parties have agreed on a power-sharing strategy in which Shehbaz Sharif will be appointed prime minister while Asif Ali Zardari will contest for the presidency.
A joint committee of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) reached the agreement on Tuesday amid intense negotiations between the former partners.
The alliance between Bhutto Zardari’s PPP and three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Muslim League-Sharif faction ends after days of uncertainty and negotiations ahead of the February 8 elections The National Assembly was created.
The PPP Chairman announced the agreement at a press conference in the state capital last night.
Shehbaz Sharif, sitting next to Bilawal, said parties have two seats to form the government with support from other smaller parties.
PML-N is the largest party with 79 seats, PPP is second with 54 seats. Together with four other smaller parties, they hold an absolute majority in the 336-seat parliament. The population of 241 million has raised concerns as Pakistan faces economic challenges such as slow growth and inflation, rising military violence and the need for stable governance and the ability to make tough decisions.

The party no longer has a place in the Punjab cabinet.
What can you get from PPP?
Presidency

On the other hand, PML-N will get support from PPP to form government in Center and Punjab . Nawaz Sharif’s party will also vote for the PPP candidate as chief minister of Balochistan.
How do the two sides get along?
PPP spokesman Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday confirmed details of the power-sharing plan agreed between the two parties, saying Sherbaz Sharif had the opportunity to absorb those who wanted him in the cabinet.
Asked to talk about the action plan when the PPP does not want to enter the cabinet, Kundi said the committee is deciding.
He said the organization would announce Sindh members and Balochistan leaders.
