Punjab Makes Fitness Certificate and Speed Limit Mandatory for Motorbikes

🚨 Punjab Mandates Fitness Certificate for Motorbikes Across the Province

Lahore: In a major step toward improving road safety, the Punjab government has made it mandatory for all motorbike owners to obtain a fitness certificate. The initiative aims to reduce road accidents caused by poorly maintained motorcycles and promote a culture of responsible driving.

According to Radio Pakistan, the new regulation is part of the government’s broader road safety reform strategy and is now officially in effect throughout the province.

🛠️ One-Year Validity Fitness Certificate After Testing

The Transport Department has amended the existing traffic law, allowing for the issuance of a one-year fitness certificate upon successful inspection of the motorcycle.

Officials have urged the public to visit authorized fitness centers to have their bikes tested for roadworthiness. The testing process will include brakes, tires, lights, suspension, and engine condition.

The department believes that regular fitness checks will not only prevent technical failures on the road but also reduce pollution caused by faulty exhaust systems.

🏍️ Speed Limit Fixed at 60 km/h for Motorbikes

In addition to mandatory fitness certification, the Punjab government has also enforced a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for all motorbikes.

As per the notification issued by the Transport Department, violations of the speed limit will result in heavy fines or legal action. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to monitor speed compliance using surveillance cameras and mobile patrolling.

⚠️ A Step Toward Safer Roads

The Transport Department says this decision was taken in response to an alarming increase in road accidents involving motorcycles, especially due to faulty brakes and worn-out tires.

With two-wheelers forming a large part of the province’s traffic, ensuring their roadworthiness is crucial to reducing fatalities and injuries on roads.

✅ Why Is the Fitness Certificate Important?

  • Ensures technical soundness of the vehicle

  • Helps identify faulty brakes or tires

  • Reduces environmental pollution

  • Protects rider and pedestrian lives

  • Enforces traffic law compliance

The government hopes that with proper implementation, these new rules will bring down the accident rate and help promote a safer traffic environment in Punjab.
