Dunya News (TEHRAN) – As tensions increased after Israel’s assaults in Tehran and other locations, Iran’s air defenses shot down two Israeli jets. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency said that the Israeli jets were shot down on Friday and that a woman pilot had been taken into custody. Iran has promised to respond to Israel’s actions with overwhelming force. As part of a robust counteroffensive, Iran conducted a fifth round of missile attacks against Israel earlier today, increasing the total number of missiles fired to nearly 200. Iran fired counterattacks after Israel launched an offensive against it, reducing many structures to rubble and killing four people and injuring sixty-three in Israel thus far. Following Iran’s most recent missile assault, there have been reports of explosions in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Residents of Tel Aviv have rushed into bunkers as sirens have sounded throughout the city, and members of the U.S. Embassy have sought refuge. Iran has dubbed the retaliatory strikes “Operation True Promise 3,” and General Ahmad Vahidi, a top Iranian military official, has stated that the strikes will go on for as long as is required. The strikes occur just hours after the Israeli state attacked Iranian territory, including residential buildings, in an act of unprovoked aggression. Images and videos of missile after missile breaching Israel’s missile defenses and detonating upon impact with their targets started to surface as the Iranian counterattacks started without warning. As they did, the night sky in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv was illuminated by enormous fireballs.
